Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 27, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Scanqy ("the App", "we", "us") handles information when you use the App. We are committed to transparency about what data is collected, by whom, and why.

Summary: Your scanned documents, ID cards, extracted text, and any Face ID or Touch ID authentication data never leave your device. Free users see ads served by Google AdMob, which may use your device's advertising identifier if you allow tracking when iOS asks. Scanqy Pro is ad-free.

1. Information We Do NOT Collect

The following stay entirely on your device and are never transmitted to us:

Scanqy has no user accounts, no login system, and no cloud sync. All OCR processing runs on-device using Apple's Vision framework.

2. Advertising and Third-Party Services

The free version of Scanqy shows ads served by Google AdMob. Scanqy Pro subscribers do not see any ads. AdMob is provided by Google LLC and acts as an independent data controller for the information it collects to serve ads. Google's privacy practices for ads are described at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

App Tracking Transparency. When you first launch the free version, iOS will ask whether Scanqy may track you across apps and websites. This is required by Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework. If you choose Allow, AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) to show ads that are more relevant to you. If you choose Ask App Not to Track, AdMob will still serve ads but they will be non-personalized and will not use your IDFA. You can change this choice at any time in iOS Settings, Privacy and Security, Tracking.

Data collected for advertising. When ads are shown, AdMob may collect your device's advertising identifier (IDFA, only if you allow tracking), coarse device information, and interaction data (impressions, clicks) to deliver and measure ads. Scanqy itself does not see this data; it is collected and processed by Google. Scanqy is configured so AdMob serves ad content rated at most Teen (T), matching the App's 16+ App Store age rating.

Other services. The App communicates with Apple services to load App Store purchase options, process purchases, restore purchases, check subscription entitlements, and perform an anonymous lookup against Apple's iTunes Search API (itunes.apple.com) to check whether a newer version of Scanqy is available on the App Store. Scanqy does not use Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, or any other analytics or crash-reporting SDK.

3. Camera Access

The App requests camera access to scan documents and ID cards. Images captured in the App are stored only in the App's sandboxed local storage. They are never uploaded to our servers or shared with any third party.

4. Local Storage

All scanned documents, ID cards, extracted text, and app preferences are stored locally on your device in the App's sandboxed storage. ID card images are stored with full iOS data protection (.complete) so they are encrypted while your device is locked.

5. Face Data and Biometric Authentication

Scanqy Pro offers the ability to lock documents and ID cards using Face ID or Touch ID. This feature is optional and is used only to let you unlock protected items on your own device.

Scanqy does not collect face data. Scanqy does not create, access, store, transmit, or receive face geometry, facial landmarks, facial images for recognition, Face ID templates, Touch ID fingerprints, or any other biometric identifiers. Biometric matching is performed entirely by iOS through Apple's LocalAuthentication framework. Scanqy receives only a temporary success or failure result from iOS so the App can unlock or keep locked the protected item.

Because Scanqy does not collect face data, Scanqy does not use face data for advertising, analytics, profiling, identity verification, model training, or any purpose other than the optional on-device unlock flow handled by iOS. Scanqy does not share face data with any third party. Scanqy does not store face data on our servers, in cloud storage, or in the App's local files. Any Face ID or Touch ID data is stored and managed by iOS and Apple device security systems, not by Scanqy.

6. Subscriptions and Payments

Scanqy Pro subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. Apple handles all payment information; Scanqy never sees your payment method, billing address, or Apple ID. Subscription status is checked locally via Apple's Transaction API. Manage or cancel your subscription through your Apple ID settings.

7. Your Choices

8. Data Retention

Local data is retained until you delete it or uninstall the App. There is no off-device retention because no personal data is ever transmitted off the device. Scanqy does not retain face data because Scanqy does not collect face data.

9. Children's Privacy

Scanqy is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has used the App, contact us and we will work with you to address the issue.

10. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

If you are located in the EU, UK, or California, you have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data. Because Scanqy stores personal data only on your device and does not maintain servers or share data with third parties, you can exercise these rights directly by managing or deleting content within the App.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in an updated effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
